Imagine you are a carpenter and you are tasked with laying wooden floor at Gill Bates’ house. Now Gill B has a very big house and he wants to make sure you do a good job. So instead of asking you to lay the floor for entire house, he asks you to finish flooring in the guest bedroom first. Here are the dimensions of that guest bedroom.

• Width: 6ft 3inches
• Length: 24ft 9inches
• Size of individual wooden floor board: 2ft x 4inches

And here is the big question you are facing.

What?!? the guest bedroom width is only 6ft 3inches?

But over the years of chiseling and polishing you have learned to keep quiet and do your work.

So the real question you have is, How many wooden floor boards should you buy?

Recently Microsoft has launched Excel app for iPad. Being an Excel addict, I could hardly wait to test it. And this is what we get.

Excel App for iPad – What is it?

Several years after iPad launch, Microsoft finally created apps for Word, Power Point, One Note & Excel. The Excel app is a miniature version of Excel on your iPad. It is capable of displaying almost all Excel workbooks with ease. You can even create your own workbooks using the app.

Time for another dashboard contest. Sit straight, set aside your appointments and get number-crunching.

Hi folks,

I am super-excited to tell you that Chandoo.org Podcast will be launching on 6th of March (Thursday). First episode is already recorded and I am getting ready for the big launch.

Name of the podcast

Last week I asked you what should we call our podcast. And I got more than 250 suggestions (150+ thru comments another 100 thru email). While the suggestions ranged from funny (chanpoo, addict.xls) to word plays (Excelent cast, Lord of the cells, Speaking Cells) to outright brilliant (XL.AM remember AM radio?). Some of the suggestions were crazy too: Word on the sheet, YouChandooIt, Didasko.xlsx – greek word “to impart knowledge”.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and suggestions.

A majority of you suggested that we call it Chandoo.org Podcast. This keeps the name generic, sticks to our brand and sets us apart. So that is what we will call it.

The full name of the show is Chandoo.org Podcast – Become Awesome in Data Analysis, Charting, Dashboards & VBA using Excel

And our first episode will be launched on Thursday, 6th of March.

That is right. As part our mission to make you awesome in Excel, this year I will be adding a podcast.

Today lets take a stroll outside what Excel can do and make something fancy, fun and may be useful.

Nowadays, many newspapers, websites and magazines are featuring info-graphics. An info-graphic is a collection of shiny, colorful & data-full charts (or often pieces of text.) In many of these info-graphics, you can see threaded-donut charts. Not sure what that is..? It is not same as the blasphemy of spoiling a soft, sweet, supple donut with a piece of string. No one should be excused for an offense like that.
