Excel Links – Delay in State migration visualization results edition
First a quick update about state migration visualization contest.
We got more than 50 wonderful entries for this contest. I have compiled 50% of the entries. Due to personal reasons (its annual vacation time at our household), I had to delay the rest and resume it after first week of June. So the results will be announced in 2nd week of June. Thanks for understanding and your patience. Watch this space for mind-boggling dashboards in 3 more weeks.
Meanwhile, here is a sneak-peek at 3 random entries.
Now on to some juicy, delicious and awesome Excel links.
Here is a trick question. What happens when you zoom down your workbook to 39%? Go ahead and check it. I will wait. Got the answer? Mike shows us that at 39% zoom, Excel maps out named ranges on the cell grid. Pretty cool way to quickly uncover the names in a workbook.
My good friend Robert shows an interesting way to create marimekko charts in Excel using VBA. Check it out and plot your data today.
Jon wonders how to place axis labels without blocking data (or chart bars). And he comes up with an ingenious solution, as usual. Check it out.
Ever wondered how big, interactive & live dashboards are designed. Recently we had elections in India (largest democracy in the world, so you can imagine the kind of data & challenge this creates). Gramener, a data visualization company partnered with Microsoft & CNN-IBN (Indian version of CNN) create a cool live dashboard on poll results day. They tell us the process behind creation of such dashboard in this article & the few that follow it. Very insightful.
That is all for now. I will see you again in next post.
