Weighted Average in Excel [Formulas]

Learn how to calculate weighted averages in excel using formulas. In this article we will learn what a weighted average is and how to Excel’s SUMPRODUCT formula to calculate weighted average / weighted mean.

What is weighted average?

Wikipedia defines weighted average as, “The weighted mean is similar to an arithmetic mean …, where instead of each of the data points contributing equally to the final average, some data points contribute more than others.”

Calculating weighted averages in excel is not straight forward as there is no built-in formula. But we can use SUMPRODUCT formula to easily calculate them. Read on to find out how.

      no difference really. Both offer same video. I am using 2 options so that our readers have a choice should there be an issue with credit card payments.

      Thank you so much for all your post. All of them are very helpful. I have a problem now that I've been working on. I have to keep a rotating schedule for 20 plus employees for a night shift. I have been able to build a calendar so I can go month to month that works great thanks to you. Only I still have to input all their R days off, Holiday, Vacation, Sick and comp days each month. The R days rotate but stay the same all the time. Example may have T and TH off and work every other weekend. So their schedule would look like this

      IS THERE A WAY TO MAKE A SCHEDULE OF REGULAR DAYS THAT WILL CHANGE WHEN WITH THE DAYS OF THE MONTH CHANGE. NOW WHEN I PUT THE DAYS IN SAY JULY IT PUTS THE SAME DAYS EVERY CELL EVERY MONTH REGARDLESS OF THE DATE OR DAY OF WEEK. IV BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THIS FOR MONTHS AM ABOUT TO GIVE UP. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE, OR JUST FOR READING MY MAIL.
