Would you be interested in an online excel training program?

Ok, I need some quick feedback here. For the last few months I have been thinking and planning to launch an online excel training program. And I want to know if YOU are interested in one.

Here is what I have in mind:

  • We will cover most important topics of excel – like writing smarter formulas, making better charts, using features like conditional formatting, filters, sorting, pivot tables, tables, named ranges, being productive with spreadsheets.
  • At the end of this, we will become good at excel, awesome at doing our job.
  • The program will be online and delivered once a week for 12 weeks.
  • The program will be paid. You will have 2 options to pay: (1) one time payment (2) 3 monthly payments.
  • We will learn from each other and share powerful tips and examples in a private, member only website.
  • I am calling this “excel school”.

Here is what I need from you:

I want to know if you are up for such a program. Please take a minute and tell me your name and e-mail id if you are interested.

Click here if you are not able to see above form.

I will add you to our list and send you updates about the program. I will also email you a short survey so that you can tell me what topics you are interested in.

Here is something else too:

Ok, this is not really related to above, but I don’t want another post just for this. Jon Peltier and I launched Chart Busters in June last year. It has been a very successful series with lots of bad charts cured.

Now as an addition, we are planning to launch a joint video book telling you how to fix bad charts.

In this Jon and I will take bad charts and try to cure them using excel while all of this along with our sleepy voices is captured on live video. We are hoping to sell this thing for something like $20. This is a fun, playful and learn-by-doing style product.

And we want to know if you would be interested to get a copy of this. If yes, just answer the below poll with “YES”, otherwise just say “NO”.

Sorry for all the polls on a Friday. But I want to make sure I spend my time on something we all enjoy. Now that I have twins, finding spare time is more difficult than finding the angle of 7th slice in a 13 portion pie chart. Thanks… 🙂

  1. Very much interested. Can you offer this as a training module for my team of about 10 analysts?

Btw, I cannot see the form that you refer to in the post.
“Click here if you are not able to see above form.”

    Subhash

  2. @Subhash… Of course, I would love to offer the training to your team. Just enter the email id in this page (form above). May be the aweber site is blocked in your company. That is why you are not seeing it.

  3. Hi, I Love to join Excel School as Excel has always attracted me but being lazy bone i had never digged deeper into the actual excel and now when i know you are here to teach, i am ready to learn and explore this wonderful software from you only. hope that my wish will get full fill in this new year.

  4. I’m interested but concerned about the timing of getting everyone together at the same time. Will there also be video training available to do at our leisure?

  5. @Mehul… Thanks for your feedback. Please add your email id to the above form so that I can send you additional info.

@Michael: sorry if my post didnt clarify this, The training will be online, but not live. that is everyweek, I post the lessons and files as new articles (in a secure site) and you can watch them anytime once they are up. We will have comments so that members can ask questions and get answers. The lessons will go in a logical order (like a series post here, but better) and you can always pause / jump around to know other concepts.

Since we have comments, it will be easy for me to know if any lesson requires additional explanation or examples. If that happens, I can write a follow up post and have the videos as well.

  6. I would love to learn more about excel and charting.. I have learnt so much from your site already! I have your formula ebook and its great!!!! One area I am interested in is getting data in formats suitable for great charts. I have lots of data that I could chart and am interested in best arrangements that can provide meaningful charts. With Excel school it would be good if members could post some actual sheets they are working on for comment.

  7. Just like Catherine, I am very much interested in getting data in formats and layouts suitable for charting. Many posts are geared towards financial results where Pivot tables are great but sometimes, you would like the table arrangements of pivot tables, but with the individual data rather than the sums, or averages!
I will definitely sign up for your course. Your site has been a real treasure to find for the help, the tricks, and the enthusiasm.

  8. @Catherine: thanks for your testimonial about the formula e-book. I am hoping to have some interactivity built in to the school. That said, reviewing excel sheets of each and every member is impractical. But may be we can have a forum where members can post their charts / formulas / ideas and see how we all can help each other.

@Daniele, @Viorel: Thanks for your encouragement. I am very excited about the program too. This will give me opportunity to connected with some of the members and share ideas and help.
