i have entered some values in column c2, c3, c4, c5, and...... same in many of these cells of this column


and i have entered some of same values in column d2, d3, d4, d5, and....same in many of these cells of this column...


now i want the DIFFERENCE of these two columns in third column....


IS IT POSSIBLE....IF YES THEN PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS TOPIC
 
In E2 type

=D2-C2

Now select E2 and copy down to the end of your data

this is not that what i want.

for example:


if value of c1 is 10, c2 is 20, c3 is 30 and c4 is 40

and value of d1 is 20 and d2 is 40

then (different values) 30 and 40 should be appear in next column


please reply this....

I am still confused by the example given ; you mention that the cells in column C , starting with cell C1 , contain the numbers 10 , 20 , 30 , 40 ,...


The cells in column D , starting with cell D1 , contain the numbers 20 , 40 ,...


You say that in column E , you should get 30 in cell E1 , and 40 in cell E2 ; how did you get these two results ?


If we compare the values in columns C and D , 10 and 30 appear in column C , but not in column D ; shouldn't they appear in column E ?


Can you clarify ?

I knew I've modified the example at chandoo.org, enhancing it with more highlights and other stuff. I didn't know where I posted it, and it was at the botton of the same link I send you. Feel a little embarrased.

When I found it, I tried to open my workbook... and I can't find it!!! Feel a little more embarrased. If I discover where it's gone for a walk, I'll upload it and tell you.

thanks for your replies....


actually i am working with a man who deals in gas cylinders(o2,c02,n2 etc.).


i am working in excel 2007 worksheet. i have made two columns there. one for CYLINDER GIVING and one for CYLINDER RECEIVING (blank cylinder). each cylinder has a particular

number for its identity such as 20, 201, 1500. because we have to maintain records for cylinder giving and receiving with date.


now problem i am facing is that when i receive some blank cylinders then i enter its no. in CYLINDER RECEIVING column but i have to delete that particular cylinder nos. from CYLINDER GIVING column manually.


the thing i want is that


1. " when i put a no. of blank cylinder in CYLINDER RECEIVING column then same no. should be automatically delete from CYLINDER GIVING column".


or


2. " there should be a new column who show me those nos. who are not in CYLINDER RECEIVING column" means that those cylinders have not been received yet.


*(basically for i could know that which cylinder is still remain to that party)*


please help me on this topic otherwise i will have to pay for a costly software.

Assuming Cylinder Given is Col A and Cylinder Receiving is Col B

Put the below formula in C2


=IF(SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A$5=B2)*B2)=0,($A$2:$A$5),"")


It will show a blank if Cylinder is received...

It will show the number if cylinder is not yet received...


Adjust the range as per your actual data.

but i still have a prob after this command.


if i receive a blank cylinder after one or two days then it is ok but if i want to receive it after 5,6 or 7 days then it doesn't work....

(Assuming A1:B7 Occupies the data and you need your result in C1:C7...

=IF(B7=0,A7,B7)

Referred to your last comment I'd suggest to read this, it's sticky and at very top in the forum topics main page (impossible not to view it!) and is called "Posting rules & ettiquette", gotcha?

- Try and tell the readers what is the situation, what have you tried and what do you want to achieve.

- Never title your posts as "Urgent", "Priority" "Immediate". It may be Important to you, but not for rest of the members here.

- If you and a reader have been involved in an ongoing conversation and the conversation suddenly stops, recognize that the person may have gone to bed, even though you have just arrived at work. In the worst case a reader may go on holidays and not get back to the question for a few days.


Besides, I honestly think that expressions like "please check it and solve the problem" or "you are requested to view this and solve the prob as soon as possible" sound more as orders like than humble asks. And I really felt a little sad when I read "what happened to you team chandoo.org ... you have not replied me since last week", after having read the 18 posts that had that topic at that moment, so I prefer to omit any comment about it, but...
