Search Record from a Closed Workbook

Hi,

New year wishish to all my friend on Chandoo.org.

I have two workbook one is master database (which is closed & kept on commen drive) where all my records will be saved and another is for searching the record from closed workbook.

My problem is i cannot use Vlookup / Hlookup because the master workbook has a 31 worksheet for each day of the month and i want to find that value in all the 31 worksheet which is kept on some comman drive. and i dont know on which sheet my record is available. Also i cannot open this file to search using find option as database is too huge.

For example i have one cell no for which i need the records from that closed workbook after serching it in all 31 worksheets.

Mean i will open the serach file and enter the cell number which i want to search from the closed file..

Why not import the data using Power Pivot

It will handle huge data volumes and make it accessible

Have a look here: http://www.microsoft.com/bi/en-us/solutions/pages/powerpivot.aspx

Hey Hi Hui....

Heard a lot about you from Chandoo's daily mailers.. Nice to see your reply on my post & thanks for updating me about the Power Pivot.. Your are truely an "EXCEL NINJA".... I will surely try and explore it on my personal PC. And I think this will be more powerful than regular excel PIVOT TABLE. We should also let this know to our Newsletter readers...

But the query is for the office and i don't think so they will provide us the add-ins to install power pivot due to IT policy & some other reasons.

Kindly help with any other alternative way to make it possible.

Regards,

Bhavin
