Lookup values with conditions

Hello. I'm trying to figure out how to look up a value based on (a)the customer name and (b) the year. There are multiple years for each customer. So, if customer=ABC client and year is 2008, then find that intersection in the data table. But, if year is 2009, 2010 or 2011, I want to add the ability to look at each year for that client and pull the right value. I've tried INDEX and MATCH and VLOOKUP, but can't figure out how to nest an IF statement in them.

Really need help with this one!! Thanks much!

You can indeed extract either actual data in ranges or summary data for years vs customers

Depending on the exact arrangement of the data, you would normally use Sumproduct, Index/Match, Sumif/s etc

Can you post a sample of your data and some details of what you want out of it?

Thank you. I've attached a sample. Also, I'm trying to pull the look up values into a pivot table, which I'm not sure will work at all as the pivot table could be grouped or ungrouped and I'm not sure how that would look. So, if that won't work, can you please let me know? Thanks a million!!
