Looking for custom dates

Hey Everyone...

Question... trying to figure out how to create the following format for a date series.

01.01.2016
01.02.2016
01.03.2016
01.04.2016
etc..

I've played around with the date formats with no luck... not sure what custom format to try and create. Curious to hear your thoughts.

If the first date is in the format DD.MM.YYYY
then use
=Edate(A1,1)

If the first date is in the format MM.DD.YYYY
then use
=A1+1
