Image Saving as Link - Need Saved as EMEBDDED

I import graphs from MicroStrategy into Excel 2010, then save the files. The graphs are only visible on MY pc. Every other user gets this:

X - The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved. . . bla, bla, bla.

It is 'linking' the image to a temp file on my hard drive. In Excel 2003, this was not an issue.

Is there a setting in 2010 that I can change to force Excel to save all my images as embedded rather than linked? I have tried "Edit Links" on Data tab, but is dimmed.

Using Excel 2010, Windows 7.

Thanks very much.

Can you explain how the Graph gets from the system into Excel ?

If you are copying/pasting try Right Click and Paste Special

Excel will give you a few different options depending on what it knows about the type of data you are pasting

Try a few different types, and obviously don't use one with links

I export directly from MicroStrategy into Excel. I add some grid data, comments, etc., then save the file.

Try selecting the Graph

Copy it

Then Paste Special

Look for a Paste as Picture or Bitmap option

That is progress. It works.

Next problem is that I export graphs to 100+ sheets at a time. I'm wondering if there's a better way than selecting/pasting each graph on each sheet, one at a time? if that's what I have to do, I have to do it. I just keep thinking there's something I can fix in Excel, since 2003 did not behave this way.

I do appreciate your help and am glad to have a fix that works.

Does your file contain any other charts or just those exported from MicroStrategy ?

We could write a VBA procedure to automatically do them all!

Can you upload a file with 2 example graphs?

(Although we may not be able to see them anyway, its worth a try)

Just those from MicroStrategy, but there's two graphs per sheet. Thanks to Chandoo site, I think I can write the code, if I can figure out how to select/copy the graph images. Have never written anything for selecting/copying images. Then just paste special as jpg, and put in a loop. Will work on that. I expect I will have questions. Will post when I get stuck.

Thanks so much for your help.

You will learn much more by tackling this yourself

as opposed to us handing over a solution

I Look forward to the end result
