Excel Workbook Crash

Hello Friends

I have small request

why our some excel files are crashed after some times, how can we identify the problem, is there any way to trash out why the file is crashed. When i Google search then i got this

http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/CodeCleaner.htm

but i didn't check this because i don't know how much safety is this and it's work perfect or not

is there any solutions about this problem

Thanking You

With Regards

The link you've posted is pretty reliable and used by many people. Rob Bovey has co-authored one book in the Wrox's P2P series.

However, this is not going to guarantee that your workbook or Excel won't crash. There could be other reasons for workbook crash.

I don't have any practical trouble shooting experience for Excel crashes but I am sure some of the experts here will definitely help you in this.

Hi Patnaik ,

Have you maintained any kind of data regarding the crashes ?

1. Does the crash happen at random ? i.e. does Excel crash when a file A is in use , but later , with the same file in use it does not crash ?

2. Do the crashes happen when the file is being opened , or after you have been working with the file for some time ?

3. Do the crashes happen more often with some files or with some file types ? e.g. .xlsm files crash more often than .xlsx files ?

4. Does the crash happen because you have many files open , or does it happen even when only one file is open ?

5. Does the crash happen when several programs ( Excel , Word , Powerpoint , Adobe Reader ,... ) are in use , or does it happen even when only Excel is being used ?

6. Does the crash occur after you have had Excel open for several hours ? If so , see if you can close Excel after one or two hours , and after seeing that it completely unloaded from memory ( using the Task Manager ) , reopen it and start working with it again.

See if you can maintain such a record over several weeks , and see if you can find any pattern in the crashes.

@Shrivallabha

@Narayan Sir

Thanks for your replay, as per your points

2. The File Crashes while on using after some time when it's going to Calculate and Save

3. I have two Types of files 1. .xlsb 2. .xlsm the both files are crashed after some time but i open only one file at a time after finish the work reopen the second workbook

4. The file crashed when i open the particular file and more than one also in some time

5. This point i can't understand sir, you mean i am using all the option at a time or all the features are used in One workbook ?

6. There is no chance to open the excel file for long time because when i open the file it will crashed after 5 or 10 mns

With Regards

Hi Patnaik ,

Point 5 referred to whether you use only one software ( Excel ) at a time , or do you have several software open on your computer i.e. at any point of time , do you have an Excel workbook(s) open , a Word document open , a Powerpoint presentation open , a .pdf file opened in Adobe reader ,.... ?

What is the data on point 1 ?

Narayan

@Narayan Sir,

Thanks for your quick reply

no i open only my excel workbook only with Tally package and Mozila Firefox that's all

I'd suggest close 1 addin at a time
Restart Excel
Reload your files
see what happens

Repeat removing addin's as you go

Reload addin's leaving the suspect one until last

@Hui Sir

after long time i got replay from you, Thanks a lot for your replay

as per your instruction

i check for addin

1. Click the Excel Option

2. Add in

3. Manage (Excel Add-ins)

4. Go

now it's display the Add-ins box

without Right Click

1. Analysis Tool Pack
2. Analysis Tool Pack-VBA
3. Conditional Sum Wizard
4. Euro Currency Tools
5. Internet Assistant VBA
6. Lookup Wizard
7. Solver Add-in

The above mention Add-ins there is not Tick mark

What i will do now

Thanks

With Regards

Hi Patnaik ,

I am still not clear on whether you have data on point 1 ; are only a few files crashing or does every file crash ?

Secondly , do the files which crash Excel do so every time you open and work with them , or do they crash Excel at random ?

Narayan

Sir,

i am not notice that is the excel file crash on every file let me check this with open a blank excel file,

yes the file is crashed every time when i open the my working files which are complete using in VBA and Formula

Patnaik

Hi Patnaik ,

Is it possible you can test the same files ( those which crash Excel on your computer ) on any other computer ?

Narayan

@Narayan

as per your instruction, i check 2 files in another system from 11:00 clock to 1:00 clock there i didn't get any Excel crash report

Hi sgmpatnaik,

1) Did you check the Excel Disabled items ? File-> Options-> Addins-> Manage(Disabled Items) -> Go (In Excel 2010) . Check if any of the addins/files are disabled and sitting over there for any reason.

2) Delete the Excel.box file %appdata% \Microsoft\Forms\ folder. This forces excel to recreate the Forms objects.

3) Delete all the .EXD files under %temp% \Excel8.0 folder.

4) Check %appdata% \Microsoft\Excel folder. I have seen in Excel 2010 that all the recovered/crashed file references are created as folders along with the XLSTART. Delete all the folders except XLSTART and give a try.

If none of these works, then good to get the MS office reinstalled ( Not repair , but uninstall completely and get a fresh installation done.). All the best
