Excel does not calculate

Hi,
I'm trying to sort out some data imported from a database. Excel recognizes there is data in the cell but won't sum or auto sum. It will however count the content. Any help would be great.

Thanks

excel see the content in Col. A as text.... probably from the import process.

you'll have to somehow convert them to values in order to preform calculations.

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org Forums

Your column contains the Character using ascii code 160 at both the start and end of the number

Try the following

Select A1
Edit (F2)
Select the last character using Shift Left arrow, You won't be able to see it but trust me its there
Copy (ctrl C)
Esc, exits the formula edit mode
Select Column A
Data, Text to Columns
Delimited
Tick other and in the box next to other paste the character you copies using Ctrl V
Next
Change the Destination to another column eg B1
Apply

Hi ,

To add to what Hui has posted , the last 3 steps :

Next
Change the Destination to another column eg B1
Apply

are condensed to one step , if you click Finish instead of Next ; Excel automatically pastes the column data in column B.
