Custom Format Equations

I would like to be able to input a series of values and have them multiplied by a given factor in another cell. For example, Project 1 = 20%, Proj 2=30%, Proj 3=50%. Then I want those inputs multiplied by the FTE Factor. Let's say 0.50. So the new value, based on the input and the factor would be 10% for Proj 1. i.e. 20% * FTE Factor of 0.50 = 10%.

Please note, I do know that I could put another cell next to the input cell and do the equation. I also know I could create an output worksheet next to the input one with the equation in the cells. I'm just trying to over think things and see how complex you can get with custom formatting.

Thanks for any help and for even looking.

I don't think so. If it was, I could see it being greatly misused and causing lots of problems/confusion for people. The closest I've see in similarity is that you can change by the power of 10...

Hi, Marc!

I agree with Luke M, you can power-of-10th format using several digit separators consecutive, but you can't change or perform any calculations with either other cell values or constants, just edition.

Thank you both.

And I agree with you both. I was trying to use powers beyond Excel, but maybe excel limits will keep me safe.

I will most likely use an input workbook and then have an output workbook. Then of course the calculations are unlimited.

Again, thank you for the replies. I've been working on this for weeks. Nice to bounch it off good people.

Live long and excel.

You could use some VBA to watch for changes in some cell/s then multiply them by a value

This will change the underlying value of the cell

Where as Custom Number Formats only change the display value of the cell
