Charts and pivot table basics

Hello

while I have strong knowledge on formulas and VBA, I need to progress on pivot tables and chart in Excel 2010. I know the basics of charts and pivot table of course, but at each time I want to make something to more "difficult"... it is a mess...

For example, a common need :
I have a table where I follow a day by day value progression. One line for one day and one value.
But If I want to display a chart with the average variation, by month, I don't know how to proceed.

It is not really an Excel problem, but what info I need to create and where . Create a day variation column on my data ? Or with a new calculated field in the pivot table ? Other ?
Thank you for your advices.

And if you have some resources to progress with basics charts and pivot tables
(For now the samples explained in chandoo.org are too "complex" for me, I want to see some basics charts if possible first)

NB: I'm really interested in chandoo excel school, but for now, I will have no time to really follow it. But probably it will be a solution to progress on that ! ;). Perhaps in the next year, I m'thinking on it.

Thanks you ;)
I have yesterday (after writing the post...) That there was some basic articles on thèse topics.
Let´s go !
