Can Excel filter out a list based on a pasted list of values?

Hi Everyone,

Just joined this forum and hoping to learn more about excel. I got a quick question, say, I have a list of names I copied from a different excel file and pasted it on another file, is there a way for excel to filter another list based on the pasted values? Looking forward to hearing from you all soon!

Hi Hui,

Thanks a lot. This helped. However will advance filter work on cells with is of not the exact value? For example, my Criteria cell has a value of "Doe" and I want to filter out "John Doe"? would it be possible? I noticed that Advance filter only filters it based on the first few characters on a cell.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Allan,

You can filter by using a special character (*). In your criteria cell enter the value as *Doe. This will show all results that have the name "Doe" in it.

Regards!!
