I suppose there is no simple way to determine once the sales volume is changed, that a different drop down menu will appear when liking on a cell in that column and that the existing choice no longer will be available? The error alerts only pop up once you go there and type in an invalid...
Yeah in that case - it would be ok. I would only rarely use the n/a and other options anyway.
Long day at work. I'll take a look over the weekend. AS always, I appreciate the help!
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27285421/Sample1_R2.xlsx Here's simplified example of what I am trying to do. Thanks to Narayank for helping me with the formula to get the right drop down menu in Column E.
Now I want to highlight the cells in column E that no longer match the dropdown menu...
So, there seems to be quite a bit of stuff regarding data validation and conditional formatting, but I cannot piece together an answer to this question. If I have missed something, please let me know.
I have a column that uses the offset function and data validation to choose 1 of 7 lists...
Hi. Thanks for the reply. Sorry for taking so long - I have been traveling and will be on the road again today. I was afraid this would require VBA. I don't have any experience with this.
I will have t check with the boss about uploading the docs. He's very protective/nervous about that...
By proper place I was referring to in the same alphabetical order.
As for the data to be inserted, name is critical. Some other data might be transferred to the new sheet depending in the sheet and what manipulations/calculations we are needing to do with the data.
I think if name can be...
Can this be done?
I have a main data sheet with names of clients (in alphabetical order) in column A and various other data in columns B through J. I then have several other worksheets that manipulate the data in various ways. I also have a another workbook that uses the client info and...
Wow. Narayan, you rock. That was a great explanation. I think I understand it all, although I'll need to review it again in more detail to be sure it sinks in.
In any event, in case it wasn't obvious, this problem is solved. I applied your sample to my sheet - and to another sample one -...
Narayan (or anyone else) - Any cahcne you can go through columns C, D, and E and explain what each formula is really doing. These are things I have very little experience with. Most of the help I can find online is related to different examples. I'd like to understand so I can use this in...
I see now, Narayan. I didn't know of the download option.
So, it appears to solve my problem and work the way I want it to. Looks great! I'll take a closer look in the morning. It's bedtime for me. I really do want to understand - at least a little - what the formulas are doing for me.
Thanks Narayan. However, I cannot see your solution. I may not be viewing Google docs properly as I've only used it once or twice before. I see the two helper columns. I understand the first and what it does. Not sure about the second. And I don't see anything in the drop down column...
I have searched for this answer here and on the web and have found similar examples, but nothing that is a solution to this situation. (I'll try to attach a sample, but I don't see how right now).
I have sales volume in column B and in Column C I want a drop down menu to choose from one of 5...
Luke - thank you so much. That was PERFECT! Works beautifully. I had to change to some references to absolute so I could copy across, but I got that figured out. I can follow your explanation, but thinking that through and finding that solution seems a bit beyond me. Thanks for the help...
I have names of people in cells B2:B150. In column H (H2:H150) I have their corresponding current project code (101 through 110 - for example).
Then I have created several more columns X,Y,& Z. In those columns I want to create a list of the people working on certain projects (101, 102...
