A dashboard is a collection of display elements that tell a story to the reader

What you display whether it be Text, Tables, Charts, etc is entirely up to you and the story you are trying to tell

The level of interactivity that you want the reader to have is also a consideration.

I'd suggest reading a number of Chandoo's Dashboard Tutorials
Once again as I have now recommended 3 times the Search Box is your friend

Thsnks for replying.juz a small query. I had heard a lot many times that people who are working with excel generate reports all the time. what does a report generally consisit of???
 
Reports consist of data. Lots and lots of data. Data in all forms, types and sizes.

The types of data depend on your demand creator, at least that's true in my corner of the world.

For instance, my reports 'today' may be centered on sales orders that include:
- Item code
- Item description
- number of packs
- number of units
- pack price
- unit price
- freight
- shopper
- date ordered
- where the item will be delivered
- when the item will be delivered
- Order #
- SI# (Shipping Instruction number)
- Tracking #
- Shipping speed
- Producing Supplier
- Cost
- Payment method
- Order status
- Organization placing the order

And that's only a few of the details that we track in the report. Then there's the dashboard that we provide for the topline reports.

Ok that means we are basically provided a excel sheet (containing lotz of data just lyk u said) that we have to work on and prepare a good kinda demanded output or for it(may be it can be a pie chart,formatting,dashboards etc...)..Correct me if i m wrong???
 
I'd spend time talking to whom ever wants the report
What do they want to see
What is important for their business
How do they want it presented
What has been presented historically?
What needed improving from those reports ?
 
You are asking a lot of different topics in the same thread.

You are, by the nature of the questions, not doing as has been suggested to you...search, those who at least try to help themselves will receive more support from the forum.


Arey i m not understanding the dashboard topic i got to know what it is, but not getting it how to make it???
