Very Dynamic & linked dashboard

Dear readers, looking for information about dynamic dashboards, graphs and pivots, I stumbled upon this great site!

Hope you want to join my travel in getting laid down the fundamentals for my dashboard..

Please find enclosed excel file with data. Finally I want to link all together, showing graphs upon the choose of the first graph. Hopefully you want to help me across...
For first instance not with the solution but the way to go, so I can learn, instead of "copy-paste"...

Ok, here we go, the first thing I want to achieve is to make a choise complaints per department. I also want to let them see separately annd combined.
Should I go here for the dynamic chart or with the dynamic pivot?

Perhaps for further information, based upon the decision here what to show in the graph, the next graphs in the dashboard are made upon that...

Looking forward to your responces and thanks for that in advance.

Rgrds, Marco

Why not do both? The pivot table bakes in really simple ways to sort and filter the data, getpivotdata() is a great way to extract data from a pivot and put it into whatever chart you want.

Dan, understand your suggestion, but what about my next graph then...?
For understanding:
2 graph's beside each other (my dashboard consists of more, but I want to understand step by step..)
IN the first graph the amount of complaints per department are displayed. With choosing a department, in the second graph, the financial figures are stated. In this graph I want also choose: scrap/rework/Na....

Have a look at this. I threw this together over a cup of coffee just for demonstration, so nothing about it is good and/or well thought out.

FWIW, you could probably do this with one pivot table if you really wanted to.

I've played around with your file, Dave.

btw sorry for my late responce....had to deal with the flue...

Yeah: It's just a matter of how you want the filter to work that determines whether you set the user selection to filter the pivot tables themselves or if you want to do it in the chart layout area.

Post an example of what you're trying to do?

Want to filter like included jpg.
I'm able to filter in the report header, bu want now filter in the row labels. Using dropdown in the graph will give another graph, of the choosen row label, without going to the pivot...
