Vertical Goal Line - Please Help!!

Hello Chandoo users!! I have created a bar chart in Excel 2013 to show the average number of days it takes for each division to process an application. According to the company handbook, applications should be processed within 60 days, so that number is the goal.

I want to insert a vertical line on the 60 day mark that spans the entire plot of the chart. I have researched this for several hours and have been unsuccessful. Can someone please help me with this issue?

I have attached a copy of the subject spreadsheet and also included a link to the data via Dropbox.

Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Hi Kelly

I am not sure how to have the 60 day mark only, but I think you will require additional gridlines in your scale to keep perspective.

You can change the gridlines to intervals of 60 days by right clicking the Y axis gridlines (vertical lines), then select Format Gridlines, once selected change the major unit to 60. This will give you 60, 120 and 180 day gridlines.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Narayan, please see the "Practice Exercise" tab on the attached spreadsheet. I tried to perform the same exercise from the link you provided (http://exceltactics.com/add-vertical-line-horizontal-bar-chart/), but even that is not working. I followed the directions exactly, but when I click "OK" after editing the Series for X and Y, my chart goes haywire!!

Can you please look at my practice exercise and see what I'm doing wrong? Maybe if I figure out this exercise, it will help me complete my original chart.
