To convert amounts in text format to number format

Hello,


My name is Shamsusaman.S, I am working as senior Q.S in a construction firm in Saudi. Please help me to solve this issue. Recently I got an excel sheet which is imported from Primavera software with data having amounts in text format with currency symbols together with amounts which canno be summed.


How can I convert these amounts with currency symbol in text format to number format in excel so that it can be summed up.

And about your question...


First, try using VALUE function: =VALUE(A1)

Where A1 is the cell with the text value representing a number.


If that doesn't work, please copy a group of cell values here so as to see their format, or better indeed consider uploading a sample file (refer to second green sticky post for guidelines).

If SirJB7's answer doesn't help try something like:

=RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-FIND("$",A1)-1)

Change the $ sign to suit your currency
