Third Level Formula Does Not Update

See the attached worksheets.

WS-01… A1 has an entry of $100
WS-02… A1 has formula ='[WS-01.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$1
WS-03… A1 has formula ='[WS-02.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$1

All worksheets are setup to “Don't display the alert and update links”

When I change to $200 in WS-01, WS-02 also changes to $200 but WS-03 does not. To get WS-03 to update I have to save WS-02… is this normal and is there any way to get WS-03 to auto update without having to open and save WS-03? I do appreciate the help and thank you for looking.

The three are working for me. Verify that you had all 3 worksheets open in same instance of XL?

That's the normal behavior, WS-03 will return the value saved in WS-02 without recalculating it.

Luke M... the problem is I have another workbook that is looking for the updated value in WS-03 which would not be opened… but as Haz has confirmed WS-03 will not auto update/recalculate on its own... so I'm off to plan "B" for a solution.
