Hi All,


I have a category name call test(sample) in a range of cells, sometimes a value maybe missing

how do I adjust my statement so if one cell is missing still get the category name

sample:

a1=test

a2=test

a3=

a4=test


output=test

Ok,


My cell reads as follows =(a1:a4)

however when A1 data is missing I get a "0" zero value.

I would like to get the category name =test

If you have in range A1:A4 the values "test", "test", "", "test", and in B1 you have this formula =(A1:A4), you will always get displayed the first cell value (A1, "test") no matter what value have the other cells in range.

Sorry for the confusion,


I'm using the following code, However there are two types of category testA, and testB


=IF(OR(A7="TestA",A8="TestA",A9="TestA",A10="TestA",A11="testA",A12="TestA",A13="TestA",A14="TestA",A15="testA",A16="testA",A17="TestA",A18="TestA",A19="TestA",A0="TestA",A21="TestA",A22="TestA",A23="TestA",A24="TestA"),"TestA","")


It works except that it only takes care of testA and not TestB.

I would like to get testA and/or TestB where applicable


Couple questions, is there a more efficient way to take care of this,

or do I have to use if OR ,AND

Sorry but I'm afraid I don't understand the issue. Without what asked in my two first comments I think I cannot be of further help.

I could only see that if you got an error you could try changing "A0" by "A20" if you copied and pasted the formula; if it's a typo error, discard this.

here is an example,


There are two categories, if you select the dropdown by school name, the "L" column needs to be populated under Index_id 35 B40, however because there are missing cells and it will not do so.

I think, I'm not communicating properly sorry about that, what I would like to see in the column under Index_id 35, B40 is the word "Scantron" or "NWEA where the case maybe.

And it will happen based on the selection from the dropdown.

The cell B40 description is reported and if is missing the user does not know what type of test the data is.(the code should loop thru the cells and pull the next available test name when a cell before is empty)


Hope I'm clear and I realized that I was not before, sometimes we think the are saying the right thing.
