System changing my Excel file from .xls to .xlsx

Has anyone run into this before? I upload a very simple Excel 2010 file that I saved down to the 97-2003 format level to my website. When I then try to download it, I get a message saying the file may be corrupted and that it has an invalid file format and it displays the file name with the .xlsx extension. I also noticed that when I upload it the size of the file changes. Any ideas? If I email the file to someone it seems to be fine.I have never had this problem before. Any ideas?

I think I've seen that happen with Wordpress even here at Chandoo.org from time to time


Sorry I don't have a solution


It might be worth asking on a Wordpress or whatever platform your using forum
