'Sort values' in 5 columns but same row not taking place.....

I was doing a 5 year trend analysis 2009 thru 2013 and I entered the years as follows:
2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 in cells J25 thru N25
But I should have entered the years as:
2013 2012 2011 2010 2009
I tried to sort the years in descending order but Excel wouldn't respond.
So, I had 2 choices-
1. Rewrite the years in descending order.
2. Do the descending order with the help of 'transpose'.
Its no big deal.
But I was wondering why the sort would not take place.
Btw…..if the years are in a single column in 5 cells the sort takes place.
Any suggestions. Thank you, friends.

Hi James,

Follow below Steps:
1. Select the Data, click on Custom Sort.
2. Select Option Button and select Left to Right as as shown in below pic.

After this in Sort By drop down you will get row number, select row and select your preferred order. I think that will solve the problem.
