shared workbook

Hi everybody!

I haven't found anything related to this issue so I gotta ask.

I've made a macro which sorts data after windows username, so only user X can modify its cells and add comments. The thing is this workbook cannot be shared so, let's say...four persons uses it in the same time.

Is there any way of doing this?

Thank you kindly in advance!

Hi Beatrice ,

The following link specifies the restrictions that apply to shared workbooks :

What problem do you have when you try to share your workbook ?

Hi again :) Thanks you for that link.

So when i try to share the workbook "allow changes by more than one user at the same time" I get "Macros cannot be viewed or edited in shared workbooks"

I was thinking it's still hope for somehow to share it. It would really help.

Hi Beatrice ,

That is not a problem ; macros cannot be viewed or edited , but they can be run.

What users cannot do

Write, record, change, view, or assign macros

What users can do

You can run existing macros that don't access unavailable features.

One more question: If I share this workbook on our network, several user could run the macro, add comments and save data - all using the same file in the same time?

Hi Beatrice ,

I should think so ; why don't you try it with sample test data instead of actual , official data and see if you run into any problems ?

Narayan

Hi guys! so the test results: when I share the workbook, the macro behind does not work anymore :( any other idea?

Hi, BeatriceP!

Consider uploading a sample file (including manual examples of desired output if applicable), it'd be very useful for those who read this and might be able to help you. Thank you. Give a look at the green sticky posts at this forums main page for uploading guidelines.

Regards!
