I've tried using bubbles and horizontal bar without success. Any hint?

try this http://chandoo.org/wp/2008/06/26/thermometer-charts-in-excel-howto/ just change fill to a gradient so it looks nice and 2nd series (The fill one) to a scatter plot so that you get a big bubble
