Scroll bar unprotect

Hi

I have a spread sheet that works as I want it to, and it has protection, allowing users only to input data into specific cells.

I have now added a slider bar beside these input cells, but using format control having them locked or unlocked does not seem to allow the user to access these sliders when the sheet is protected. How can I maintain the existing protection, but allow input from these sliders? I am using Excel 2010.

Thank you

Hi, tpmbrian!

Before protecting the worksheet, enter in Design Mode, slider properties, and change Locked from True (default) to False.

Thanks for the response. As I said in my question, I have tried with some of the sliders locked, and others not locked. On the protected sheet it makes no difference, they are all protected. I think I am looking in the right place, it is Developer mode in 2010, that I have unchecked the locked scroll bar.

With the new sheet I go to Review, then Allow Users to Edit Ranges, and name the editable ranges, make sure the sliders are not locked, then Protect sheet and assign a password. The named ranges are editable but the sliders are not.

Hi, tmpbrian!

Could you please upload a sample file? Check green sticky topics at this forums main page for assistance?

Regards!

Hi Brian ,

After you have uploaded the file to any file-sharing website , ensure that you have given access rights to others , and then post that access link here.

Hi Brian ,

Instead of what you have tried :

With the new sheet I go to Review, then Allow Users to Edit Ranges, and name the editable ranges, make sure the sliders are not locked, then Protect sheet and assign a password. The named ranges are editable but the sliders are not.

can you try unlocking the linked cell ( A3 ) of the slider ( by going to Format Cells , and then unchecking the Locked checkbox ) , and protecting the sheet ?

Excellent, that has worked on the test sheet, and on the actual sheet. What a converluted way to solve the problem. Excel 2010 continues to give me cause to wonder as I discover more intricate routes to simple commands.

I used to think I was a power user, not I rank myself as one step before novice.

Thank you very much, you have made an old man very happy, unlike Excel, which makes a happy man old.

Thanks
