Recommended Charts - Series with Positive Negative Values

hi guys,

been digging the site for some examples for bar/column charts which consists of positive & negative values.

for example, my current data set is DAILY with POSITIVE (i.e. GROSS) and NEGATIVE (i.e. CHURN) values.

I'm thinking to plot these in column charts, GROSS on positive y-axis (above 0), and CHURN on negative y-axis (below 0). <-- disadvantage is viewer need to "translate" the negative values.

my other option (clearer representation of data) is to invert CHURN numbers into positive value, and plot it along GROSS. this, i can use a line chart, running parallel across days.

i was wondering, is there any other suitable/recommended chart type ? :)

thanks!

I don't understand your comment " "translate" the negative values"

You could add the values as Data Labels for each +'ve and -'ve bar to the end of the Column to simplify the understanding of the values

hi Hui,

"..viewer need to "translate" the negative values." <-- if negative values are below 0 y-axis, viewer may take some time to visually understand the -ve columns.

thanks!

I don't understand what is wrong with simply charting the data as either Columns or Bars

I still don't understand what translate means in the context of analysing a charts data

Hi David ,

You could have two charts side by side , as shown here :
