PivotTables: new data not sorting

json

Member
Ok, so I'm working on cleaning up a workbook for a coworker... there are several pivots that are bascially listing names per machine.

I set the source data to be the Table Name rather than the Cell reference that was previously used because that range was no logner accurate (it was not including several rows). this way as the table grows, the data source for the pivots will dynamically change to accomidate...

anyway... i updated the pivots and started to play with them to make sure they all work properly and then i found this.

1) i have 2 pivots on 1 sheet. when i add my name to the datatable and refresh the pivots, on one pivot my name shows up in alpha order but on the other it shows up at the bottom. all the 'options' for both pivots are the same so i'm not sure why one is able to sort and the other is not. right now they are using the filter and rows fields.

2) the other issue is that 1 pivot will automaticly add the new date to the filter but the other does not... i dont want to have to update multiple pivot filters; they need to automatically update like the one (this is a bigger issue than the sorting)
EDIT: the tables that dont automatically add the new date to the filter field are the ones that dont sort the data either

any help is greatly appreciated!

For Now:

Click on the Pivot Table Row Label Drop Down > More Sort Option > ..and set it to "Ascending (A to Z)". Does that works?

yes, this will resort the list of names.... however, i still have to manually add any new dates to the filter. and i know i could automate this method of sorting with a macro, but i'd like to keep this as simplified as possible for the actual users.

is there any other way to provide a screenshot without having to upload the pic to a website?

i tried to recreate the pivot that 'isnt' working and its no different...

i tried recreating the pivot that 'is working' and the new one no longer works (old one still does)

oh dont stay up for me (not suppose to use work email for personal use) ((Secured environmen @ work lol))

the mind-blowing part that is driving me crazy is that 1 pivot works exactly how i want it to but the one 2 columns to the left (the the others on the additional sheets) DONT!!!!

Thank you for your help! i'll keep researching and post if i find anything

AAAAHHHAAAA!!! I'm an idiot!!

i think i figured it out!!!!

everyone learn from my mistakes!

i stumbed upon the above link. the OP posted a question looking to do the EXACT OPPOSITE than what i'm trying to achieve. when i was going through the field settings and pivottable options, i always had the row labels field selected... NOT THE FILTER FIELD!! all i had to do was (after selecting the correct field...lol) open the Field settings and check the box 'include new items in manual filter'

wow..... i need a drink! hahahhaha
