Open as [READ-ONLY] - Excel file on server

I am working with some files which are kept on server and sometimes it shows that file is already open by gauravkr how ever gauravkr has not opened the file.

what could be the possible reasons for the same.

Some application will be running at the background that has still kept the previous session open. Log off the system and try IMHO

What do you mean by IMHO ??

Yes you are right that after restarting system it does not shows same.
