Hi

Starting with apologies for a way off query...came here since tons of googling couldnt help and hoping Chandoo can :-)

I have a collection of lecture tapes in mp3 format in Telugu. I want to use excel to classify them into main topics, sub topics, add notes, catalogue them, eliminate duplicates etc

Having done that, i would like to click on the excel table to bring up a menu of related mp3, which i can play

None of the free/commercial mp3 organisers serve my purpose since there is no tag information available..i will have to build for each lecture !

Would greatly appreciate if some one can help please

You'll have to add a few columns for each field you want to record
Then add values as appropriate
Once you have the table you can search for duplicates, spelling etc using the Table Tools

Thanks Hui
looks like my reply did not get uploaded
I am on excel 2003 and unless I am mistaken tables are not available
Can you kindly suggest alternative?
Thanks in advance
Hi, shyam!
Have you tried with mp3Tag?
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
You can edit any tag and set fle names properly upon them.

Thanks SirJB7, this is the first I have heard of it. . Certainly sounds very promising. .. Will try it out

Hi, shyam!
It's a very powerful free mp3 tag editor (IMO the best available), but nothing more. So the classification features you're looking for I guess that'll rely on your ability to rename the files properly using the attributes required. That if you plan to access (play) the files from Windows Explorer. Now if you switch to play them from mp3Tag then I think you're done, and that it won't matter the names you assign to your files.
Regards!

Thanks SirJB7
apologies for asking a follow up query without doing home work-since am new to this :-)
My end objective is to play them on android (note 2 samsung-not rooted) so it would help immensely if I can tag and convert to am format which is huge on space saving
What would you recommend in this case since a quick search gives me a feeling that mp3tag editor won't work with amr format
Sorry for moving way out of excel related topics

Hi, shyam!

If you're going to use it on a Note 2 under Android as .amr, how are you going to handle this issues:
a) Acquiring .mp3 on a Windows PC and converting to .amr
b) Updating .amr files on Note 2
c) Playing .amr upon a classification that -if it exists- is on mp3Tag or equivalent.

I think it's to weird and cumbersome to be practical. Sorry if I'm not of further help.

REgards!
