numbering visble cells in subtotals

Hi All

I have column A B C , sort column A and use subtotals command in data for Columns C (numerical values )which are cost for products in which Columns A are codes for specific products .

I want to do numerical entry for each subtotals in column D (header named Itemised )that is 1, 2.,3 , 4 and so on . When i auto fill in column D ,it takes the hidden rows also .My subtotals in column C start row C4 then C18 ,then C45 and so on .Actually i am doing this manually and can go 1000 subtotals is there a formula i can format which can help me .

Use in D2 and copy down:

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Total",A2)),1+MAX(D$1:D1),"")
