Number positioning

Is there a Macro or formula that can tell me how many times specific number has been entered on a spreadsheet. Lets say I have 5 numbers 5-15-23-45-54 . I want to see how many times 23 has been entered in each column or row. I know I can do a data sort and manually count them but would love to do this automatically.
