Can any body tell how to make visible drop down arrow permanent in excel, so one can identify there is a drop down list.

are you referring o making the drop-down arrow visible at all times, rather than only when that cell is selected?

and are you referring to the drop-down arrow through Data Validation or a Form Control?

Good day mm123

No, only the active cell can display a data validation drop-down arrow.

You could use combo boxes, from the forms toolbar, or the control

toolbox, and their arrows would always be visible.

If you just have few places where you need this, you can draw a small rectangle with a down arrow in it (enter 6 and change font to webdings). Then place exactly where the combobox down arrow appears.

Hi, mm123!

First of all welcome to Chandoo's website Excel forums. Thank you for your joining us and glad to have you here.

As a starting point I'd recommend you to read the three first green sticky topics at this forums main page. There you'll find general guidelines about how this site and community operates (introducing yourself, posting files, netiquette rules, and so on).

Among them you're prompted to perform searches within this site before posting, because maybe your question had been answered yet.

Feel free to play with different keywords so as to be led thru a wide variety of articles and posts, and if you don't find anything that solves your problem or guides you towards a solution, you'll always be welcome back here. Tell us what you've done, consider uploading a sample file as recommended, and somebody surely will read your post and help you.

And about your question...

Another option maybe highlighting those cells, you could use a soft pastel tone so as to don't hurt eyes too much, and keep it only for identifying data validation cells with dropdown lists.

Regards!

EDITED: dropdown lists cells by data validation cells with dropdown lists.

I believe he is talking about the datavalidation drop down list.

This is why I tend not to use datavalidation list because of this issues. A user cant tell if there is a list unless the cell is active.

Try a combo box instead.

@Montrey

Hi!

So did I, but omitted data validation words. Edited yet. Thanks for the catch.

Regards!

I have a pivot table which contains time field and incident catogory, location etc... once I drag the time it displays as 8:00 AM,8:16 AM,8:20 AM,9:15AM like that, if there is any way to extract data from particular time period like (8AM-11AM, 11AM-2PM and so on..)in a pivot table. can anybody explain, Thank you

Good day mm123

The last post of yours is a different subject, you have buried it in your drop down post, how many will even bother to look, as far as members of the forum know the question of the drop down has been answered so they will not look.

New/different question equals a new post with clear title to get as much interest as you can.

You have to click the time field in the pivot table and only check what time periods you want displayed. If this doesn't work please make a new thread with your problem.
