Lookup unique identifer to see if dates fall in a range

Hi there,

I have 200,000 unique identifiers (for patients) and I'm trying to see whether they came back in to hospitals within 28days. So I have the unique identifier in one column and the dates in which they came in in another column. How can I write a formula which will look at the dates for each unique identifier and tell me whether they came in again within a 28 day period?

Thanks so much,
A

Hello Paul F and Naresh,

Thanks for your replies - I have uploaded the book and have put what I'm trying to achieve under the grey headers.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks Narayan, it works! But the formulas are dependent on the Patient Identifier and Discharge Dates being sorted, right? What if I need to add more current data to the dataset? I'd need to sort it each time? Is there another way of doing the formula without having to sort the data?

Hi ,

I don't think so ; try sorting the data alone ( columns A through E ) in any order you want and see whether the results are correct.

Hi Narayan,

It only works if the data is sorted from column A and the separation date. That's fine though, I've got what I needed, thank you so much!

Best,
A
