Looks like I got the first 100%

In case anyone else, like me, is wondering what Montrey is talking about, it's this quiz:

Should I point out that you got 100% before Q5 was corrected?

Hi Chandoo ,

I think I can give one reason. And before I give the reason , let me admit that I got 61 %.

The reason I got 3 questions wrong is because I did not check all the correct answers in the 3 questions which had multiple answers ; I think this is unfair. This is like asking a person whether they know the route from city A to city B , and then penalising them for not giving all the possible routes !

Excel for most of us is a tool ; just as a dictionary is a tool. I don't think even the greatest wordsmith around would know all the words in the dictionary or would at all have used all the words in the dictionary.

I agree that if there is more than one way of doing things , one should know when each of the methods is applicable , which are the situations where each one of them would fail , and which one is most efficient ; but I am sure that most of us would never touch the limitations of Excel unless our job requires us to do something which throws up such a situation.

It would be nice if you could come up with practical problems , give the required answer , and then ask people attempting the quiz to give the names of functions they used to arrive at the answer.

I suggest that each of us tries to come up with good questions , and mails them to you ; probably a month from now , we can have a follow-up quiz.

@Narayan.. Thanks for your feedback. As this is my first quiz on the blog, I am still learning how to set it up and how to run it.

I have use multiple "answer" questions to mainly test how many different ways our readers know. I was under the impression that when someone sees check boxes and multiple answers that are correct, they would check all. Sorry I did not make that clear.

Also, my intention is not to score and grade our readers. Rather provide them with another way to learn.

I am more than happy to collect questions and run them in a sub-sequent quiz. I see that many readers responded to this one (more than 600 entries). So I would be very eager to make this a monthly feature. Please send me any questions you got...

Good day Chandoo

The idea of a monthly quiz incorporating forum members input is a good one, I think it would encourage more member participation...but would it not be a good idea to have a separate section for this so as not to add “clutter” to the board.

This way members would know where to post their ideas for you to add to a quiz if the question had merit.

The accepted answers on Q5 are still wrong. I don't want to post the reasons on here in case it ruins the quiz for people who haven't taken it yet - I'd be happy to explain my reasoning by email if an Admin/Mod pings me at colinleggblog at gmail dot com.
