Hey there!

Just wanted to share my first attempt at linguistics using Excel, Porter Stemming Algorithm (Finds the root of the word).

Only formulas no VBA

Jcoenep,

Welcome to the Forums & Thanks for contributing!

Can you explain what is Porter Stemming Algorithm? :?

Hi, jcoenep!

Yesterday I quickly read this post and gave a look to the attached file, I felt like Faseeh, but I attributed it to the late hour of the night... now at noon I should admit that I don't have the minimal idea of what it serves for. Would you be as kind as elaborate and post an explanation for people who ignore all about it? Thank you.

Regards!

Hi Faseeh ,

Surely Google can help ? The topic is not something that can be explained in a post , when Google returns more than a million results.

For a brief introduction , see here :

Hey!

Thank you for the response, well;

The algorithm basically "stems" any text, or in other words it brings every word down to its root/stem by getting rid of plurals suffixes and so on...It is meant to facilitate text analytics and is often used by Search Engines.

I hope this clarifies a little, thanks for the feedback
