A good book to start with, if you have some basic idea of programming from schooling days, is P2P series book on VBA.

I used this book when I began along with MrExcel's Excel and VBA Macros (for Excel 2003).

Some of the information is going to be dated as it was written for Excel 2007 but it covers many aspects in good detail and is very helpful.
