Indian song title help

Hello,

Firstly, I'm sorry to ask a very non-Excel question on Chandoo's site. However, given that many of Chandoo's readers live in India, I thought it was also the perfect place to post a question about Indian music.

As a child, my wife lived in India for about a year. She and her family were volunteers at an orphanage in Sarapaka.

At any rate, the other day she and her brother were trying to recall the title of what seemed to be the most popular song in India when they were living there--1993/94. They can remember the chorus, but they don't have a clue how it was spelled. A quasi-phonetic spelling is something like "chera-paka, chera-paka ri-lay."

Does this chorus sound familiar to anyone? If so, do you know the title/artist of the song? It's perhaps a trivial matter, but it would be fun for me to be able to tell them the name of the song so that they perhaps could here it again.

Much thanks,

DB

"Firstly, I'm sorry to ask a very non-Excel question on Chandoo's site",......but you have not tried a music site in India instead of an Excel site!!!

ps. Many,many chandoo user live outside India

Huh.. now I have seen everything :D

But I guess, I can still help. As I hummed this song probably a million times. If I am not wrong, it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtCRKmM437Y

And there is more of where it came from. The music director, A R Rahman, went on to become extremely popular, composing for many films, winning 2 oscar awards and inspiring millions of Indians.

It is posted in the Lounge

Which is what Lounges are for "asking questions about Indian Music" and anything else you want

I realise that, my point was that if I was looking for a particular song just about the last place I would have thougt to post would have been an Excel site! If he has a question to ask then that is not a problem, I just cannot see the correlation between the search for a lost song title and an Excel board, no matter where you live. The web is inundated with music sites, many speciality ones for such thing as Indian music

Good Morning old friend

Medicals have allowed me to return to work, so some good news.

@Bobhc

Sorry, I meant no offense and my post does seem to defy reason. It's only that I read Chandoo's site and I know its users are smart!

@Chandoo

That must be it! Thank you! I'm going to surprise them with it on Friday and I'm sure they'll love it. Your site is an inspiration. Thank you for creating this fantastic resource and for attracting so many knowledgeable Excel users to one place! I commend your site and newsletter whenever I have the opportunity.

Check out the youtube link I posted, and no offense was taken, it was just as you say a post that seemed to defy any reason on an Excel board.

"I know its users are smart!" you will go far :) flattery gets you every where.

Thanks for that link Chandoo. Even though I do not understand Telugu, it sounded like a nice song. The "dancing" reminded me of the kolavari song! Indian movie clips always make me smile.

Now I am feeling a bit nostalgic...

P.S. this was supposed to post in the lounge, since I replied there. Not sure why it shows up in the main forum. Please delete. Thanks.

OK I give up, I have watched the video a few times and apart from the grey haired gentleman, all have the thick bush black hair style associated with people who change the fuse in appliances without switching of the power............so which one is Chandoo

Try again. If you look very hard, thru the screen, you can see me at the other end of world, glued to a TV watching this song. Although you need to travel back in time for about 16 years.
