If this - rank that problem

hello
i have a formula that ranks players based if female or male & uses their scores.
the formula is doing exactly what its supposed to UNTIL i fix the top name thats spelled wrong.
the name in Cell CA11 has an extra space in the beginning of name. i need that space removed but if i remove it the ranking columns of CH/CI no longer work because of the acending order.
i have tried several ways to fix the name & still get the correct order but anything i do just changes the ranking to #NA.
i have attached worksheet with it working & with extra space on 1st name. based on the ranking in CH11/CI11 down conditional formatting decides if G11 down is colored blue for males, pink for females.
thank for the help in advance

If you change CA11 you must also fix the same issue in the original cell H81 or else it doesn't find the value Turtle08

Hi ,

A suggestion for future worksheets - please do not mix up data and formulae ; there is really no reason for helper columns to be column A or anywhere else within the data range ; all helper columns should be away from the data , in some remote area of the worksheet.

Another suggestion - as far as possible try to ensure that the worksheet flows from one row to the next , or from one column to the next. The formula in column A refers to columns B , E and F , whereas the formula in column B refers to columns E and F.

This example is even more tangled - the formula in column AH refers to column AW , which refers to columns AQ:AV , which in turn refer to columns AY through BD , which are all blank ; I assume that the formula in column AW is not really relevant to the application.

I can only assume that you will be the only user of this workbook , since if anyone else has to understand what has been done , and possibly extend it or maintain it , it is going to be uphill work.

hello narayank

my worksheet does flow correctly. the problems were only in cells CA-CK

none of the other cells pertained to the problem.

my main sheet is from o-ab so any helper columns come from that. helper columns from AC-AI refer to O-AB. helpers in AL-BD refer to I & J. helpers have to keep moving on down in the unused area or i have to break up the spreadsheet. each section in the helpers refer to something else which is why i have blank columns between them to show diff helper sections.

yes, im the only one using it & its not that hard to understand. hui seemed to find my problem without all the backlash.
