My Dear Mr. Excel,

I am baffled by how a chart was created. I went to a job interview and I was asked to create a chart in Excel. I tried everything I know but I could not create the chart. This is not the first time I have tried this chart. Please see attached.

I have another interview next week, and I am afraid this chart will be waiting for me. It would very much appreciated if you could help.

Please see attached.

Thanks you in advance

Hi Baama,

I am little confused What and why you want to do this.

As far I understand, In excel you can not add multiple "Horizontal axis" range. so logically you can not do this but if you really want to achieve this, you can make 2charts "One over the other".

Below, I have changed the "Horizontal axis" to dates.

Thank you but this is not what I am looking for. Unfortunately I did not take a screen shot. I believe there is a trick to solving this puzzle

The copy I downloaded (above) seemed to indicate you needed help with the CLOSE chart - specifically getting the dates to fill across the horizontal/bottom axis. I went to SELECT DATA to see what range you had selected and it was blank. I added the range of A2:B243 and the dates filled across nicely.

Was there a different issue for you?

Thanks. Please look how the chart has line has change drastically. the wavy form has gone. It did not work. Unfortunately I did not take screen shot of the final

I took this test at citigroup location here in NY but I did not take a screenshot they only had the solved in a print out. I should have taken a picture of it but there was a supervisor. They had lot o candidates coming in to try out.

Here is your spreadsheet, with the DATA RANGE changed for the CLOSE chart.

Was this what you expected or did you want something different?

Thanks for you effort but it was a combined a chart. the close as a line chart and volume as a bar chart but chart is using the dates of the volume as the horizontal axis

I'm so sorry I don't understand your request. I can make several more guesses, but don't know exactly waht you want. Can you try to draw me a mental picture of what you want as your final outcome?

Please see attached sample picture on the bottom of the page. Thanks for your efforts. You may also refer me to some one who might solve the problem. They have this at citigroup location as a test for candidates applying for a job.
