How to calculate day of week occurence in a month?

New Member
Hello all,

Can someone kindly explain how I can calculate the day of week occurrence in a month? For example, August 7 2012 is the first Tuesday in August, while August 8 2012 is the second Wednesday. How can I easily calculate that?

Welcome to the forum TheBeerHunter

suppose your date is in cell G8

=ROUNDUP(DAY(G8)/7,0)&TEXT(G8," dddd")

Hope it helps

He probably just needs

=ROUNDUP(DAY(G8)/7,0)

But awesome logic on the formula suggestion. GJ!

Hi, TheBeerHunter!

PS: Oh, I almost forget it...

First of all welcome to Chandoo's website Excel forums. Thank you for your joining us and glad to have you here.

As a starting point I'd recommend you to read the three first green sticky topics at this forums main page. There you'll find general guidelines about how this site and community operates (introducing yourself, posting files, netiquette rules, and so on).

Among them you're prompted to perform searches within this site before posting, because maybe your question had been answered yet.

Feel free to play with different keywords so as to be led thru a wide variety of articles and posts, and if you don't find anything that solves your problem or guides you towards a solution, you'll always be welcome back here. Tell us what you've done, consider uploading a sample file as recommended, and somebody surely will read your post and help you.

And about your question...

Previous formulas should achieve the goal. If you want to dig a little deeper in days of the week, give a look at this file:

@shailyog

Hi!

Nice formula :)

Regards!

another variant of the formula to make output look presentable:

=CHOOSE(ROUNDUP(DAY(C2)/7,0),"First","Second","Third","Fourth","Fifth")&TEXT(C2," dddd")

Sirjb7 and Montrey

Thank you.
