How do you know when to use the ADDRESS function and the INDIRECT function?

For some reason, I seem to confuse these two functions. They seem to be very similar.

1. How can I recognize when to use the ADDRESS function?
2. How can I recognize when to use the INDIRECT function?

Anytime I have used these, it is more like trial and error and I have to hope that it will work. I don't want to depend on hope. Instead, I would rather have a true understanding as to when they are needed and how these functions work.
