Greyed out insert table

I have a small data list that I am trying to turn into a table, I am using Excel 2010/2013, when I select a cell and then select insert/table from the ribbon the table button is greyed out.

So I select an empty cell outside of the data, then click the insert/table (which is no longer greyed out) on the ribbon, I then choose the data as the table cells and I then get an error message saying “a table cannot overlap another table”………..but there is only one data block, I have go through every section of the ribbon and the table button is the only one greyed out?!?!?!?

I have opened other files and there is no problem so it must be something to do with this workbook

Tried adding first column titles in row 1? Doing so your table will automatically expand up to the last titled contiguous column.

The file you uploaded is already a Table

Notice the small blue corner in E40!


Right Click anywhere in the table

Select Table, Convert to Range


You can only do that if its a Table ?

Hui another lesson learned, I did not know about or see the small blue triangle bottom right, small being the operative word, I had searched on the web and I was surprised by how many post's there are about the subject, but no real answers, so I posted on Chandoo and get the answer, superb, I suppose what threw me, with my limited knolwedge, was that I was under the impression that tables always had filters in the header row. My thaks for the answer and your help.


P.S I take back my joke about the austrailian 2012 team I posted in an earlyer post and offer you one of SirJB7's Carlsbergs
