Hi,
Can any of you brilliant people help me to establish this kind of layout for a gannt chart?
I would love to see the chart with a dynamic scroll on the time scale. The lines and milestones should be formatted depending on status markers in the data.
Many thanks!

Do You have data for that Gannt-chart?
Without as realistic data as You would like to use ...
Your data seems to have over one year dates or what would be those Q1..Q4.
... few kind of markers ...
What else there would be?
... or You would have a new challenge!

Just some very basic lines attached here. And yes, the dates will span over years, but could be monitored in periods of choice. I illustrated it with a quarterly review.
Round markers are milestones approved, declined, or in progress. I am not yet sure of the need for formatting the lines, but it would be nice to have the option.

Check Sheet3 and
modify Your data as it would be shown with Your 'challenge'.
If some values would be as approved and so on ...
then where were those in data?
There is huge difference with terms 'need' and 'nice to have'(=no need).
You should have clear vision ... what would You need?

The data sheet should now reflect the gannt. Start and end come from the dates, and any milestones are also activated if there is a date input. Each gate can then be either pending, approved or rejected. Hope this makes everything clear :)

torben - The data sheet should now reflect the gannt.
Did You mean Your data sheet's data or what?
Hint: It would be better to keep those dates NOW in the same sheet, that You could notice ... something!
Four gate's dates would see by 'line' (... and dates ... really means dates!).
Your 'data' has also two kind of GN statues with text
... I didn't start to guess ... four gates.

Hope ... hmm ... I miss that sentence. I missed term 'focus'.

vletm,
I am not quite sure what the problem is? I need a gannt layout as illustrated.
I need your help to suggest if/how it can be done.
What data is needed, how should it be organized, etc. should be part of the response.

#2 Reply - I asked 'Do You have data for that Gannt-chart?'
#5 Reply - You sent 'data' which did not reflect Your illustrated.
Did You check my previous file?
There are some similarity with Your illustrated ... or how?
There are also some notes/hints.
... and now You ask: what data is needed? ... hmm?
You would get correct data somewhere.
Many things depends of that data!
After that,
it's possible to figure how to get illustrated output from it
... or as close output as possible.
Someone have to have clear image/vision to give with needed data.

Thanks, your idea of using a scatter chart solves the layout to some extent. Would it also be possible to format the milestones depending on the status? (cells N17-Q17 in your sheet)

There are no problems ... only challenges,
and those would be because, if You cannot figure logic.
You have to t-h-i-n-k and s-t-u-d-y, how do those would work
... not 'just write something somewhere'.
> You can edit & add those.
> Editing series would be quicker.
> Adding series ... hmm ... would need more than one second.
I have tried to ask realistic data ... but no!
Then I gotta do 'my data'.
To that active cell, You should write date eg 17/04/2018!

@torben You might like to have a look at Craig Hatmaker's site for ideas
https://sites.google.com/site/beyondexcel/project-updates/papagantt-thebigdaddyofxlganttcharts
Craig is of the mindset to contribute to the community so would be supportive. Quite a while ago, I set out by placing shapes representing activities within a chart as the parent object. This allowed me to exploit the time axis and had greater potential for interactivity since Charts support mouse move event handling. Without downloading one of Craig's workbooks, I am not sure what he went with finally.
Even examining the code would provide something of an eye opener in any case.
