FUNCRES.XLAM hangs up opening Excel

Derek B

Anyone else have this problem? I included this add-on to access the Data Analysis features about 2 weeks ago and it immediately added a few seconds to opening the program (Excel 2010), but today it's more like a minute. I've just now un-selected it (under Options>Add-ins>Manage Excel add-ins) so the immediate problem should be resolved, but it would be nice to have access to it without having to stop for a cup of coffee every time.

Any help appreciated!

Hi, Derek B!

Welcome to Chandoo forums!
Checked this yet?
http://chandoo.org/forum/forums/new-users-please-start-here.14/

About your question, I'm running a computer with Excel 2010 x86 (32 bits) with FUNCRES.XLAM enabled under Win 7 x64 and I've never experienced such issue.
Tried disabling it and restarting your computer?

Regards!

Ah...my introduction (sorry about that!)--I'm a long-time academic and computer user (first on a Litton Industries "Monrobot") (check out the picture at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monrobot_XI) and Excel user by-the-seat-of-my-pants...but it doesn't always fly straight. Looking forward to learning from those who actually "know."

I've upgraded since the 1960's(!)--my current system is the same as yours, and I will try a reboot and re-installation of the add-on. My guess is that it will work for a while, and then not--which is what happened last time over a week or two. But maybe this time is the charm? I've certainly seen lots of erratic behavior over time. Many thanks!!!

Hi, Derek B!

Thanks for the introduction, very impressive. Would you mind posting it here:

so all Chandoo community may find it easily? Thank you very much.

Regarding the .xlam issue, a few questions:
a) What Windows version are you running? Processor & RAM? 32 or 64 bits?
b) What Excel version have you installed? 2010 32 or 2010 64 bits?
c) If you've not reinstalled it yet, first try a reboot and use Excel for a while; then reinstall it and retry. Just to compare before & after.
d) Do you have any other workbooks, templates or anything that get loaded when starting Excel? Check the XLSTART & STARTUP folders at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

Regards!

a) Windows 7, 64-bit, 4 GB RAM, Intel Core i5 3317U
b) 2010 32-bit
c) not sure where to find an install version, this was downloaded from my university. I see that I can get an entire set of Office Professional Plus 2016, but it seems like a lot of effort for an intermittent(?) problem.
d) both of those folders are empty.

Thanks again! as with many things Excel I do usually muddle through, but any assistance is welcomed...

Hi, Derek B!
From Excel menu, File, Help, and you get a bunch of things including version.
If those folders are empty and the problem persists after uninstalling and reinstalling the add-in, I'd go for Office uninstallation and reinstallation.
Regards!

If you have option to get, Office Professional Plus 2016. Do so. :)

It will give you access to Get & Transform (PowerQuery) and PowerPivot along with ability to connect with more data sources out of the box.

PowerQuery/PowerPivot are the most powerful tool Excel has added in recent years and will make data transformation and analysis much easier.
