Formula $W$2 we want to extend down

We have a formula $W$2 and want it to go down the row as $W$2,$W$3,$W$4,$W$5,$W$6

but can't get it to copy.

Manually changing is not an option since we have over 60000 records.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
Remove the 2nd dollar sign like so:

=$W2


The dollar sign was making the row an absolute reference, thus it wasn't changing.
 
You only "need" the dollar sign if you don't want the row portion of the cell reference to change. But your original question stated that you want it to change. Which is it, or why do you think you need it?

Just for SirJB7 who needs more $...

In a separate column (for example Z) just write $W$2, now drag it (a small dot at the bottom right of the cell) toward down.. It will automatically change to

Code: 
$w$2	$w$3	$w$4	$w$5	$w$6 and so on..

Now in the formula, where you want to use $w$2,  use =INDIRECT(Z2)

Now Your formula will work fine with lots $ sign..
 
what if I want the "INDIRECT" cell to be recognized in another column? IE: a different query is looking at the cells with INDIRECT reference and doesn't recognize the cell

I think it would help it you started from beginning and showed us what layout you have and what you're trying to do with the formula. It's still unclear as to why you wanted an absolute reference that changed (making it a relative one...). Examples would be:


Formula references W2

Copied to right I want it to reference W3

Copied down I want it to reference W4

Copied to right I want to reference X2
