Finding the desired total from bunch of numbers

Hi

I have a problem with identification of campaigns. I need to join many tapes with a few campaigns ( how they go together ) . There were other things which failed so I want to find if this crazy option is possible. I know how many spots every tape had ( column C) I know that a total of spots for for one of campaigns is 1931. Is it possible to find if we can total some of numbers in column C to get total 1931 and also which cells were summed? . If this is possible I am putting my hat down :)

If I understood correctly, you want to know which numbers in column C, which added together, will give 1931?

In that case the solver can help you. To install it: Options->Add Ins-> Solver Add-in. Then you can find it in the Excel ribbon in Data->Analysis

I set a binary condition in column D (0=number not used, 1=number used) and in G6=SUMPRODUCT(C6:C20,D6:D20) with condition G6=F6. The solver will then allocate the 0/1 in column D to find a solution.

Is that what you were looking for?
