Excel stops working and shuts down?

I have 4 books that are all linked together. Every now and then when I open this one specific book I get an error that says Excel has stopped working and shuts down, restarts and when I click on enable Macros the error comes back and just shuts down. I literally have to delete this book, get a back up copy and paste in the information and it will run fine.
What causes this? I have not done anything different. I was using it, saved the file, went to lunch . Came back and opened the file and got this error. Is there anything in my trust center I can turn off? Its a pain in the butt LOL. I am using Excel 2010 64bit

This occurs when I go to Enable Macro and only occurs with this one file BUT, it has occurred with this same type file before. I normally have to delete it and bring a back up copy out to replace it . I ran the Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) and it gives me this message. I know it says something about add Ins but I would think it would happen all the time it was an add Ins

try to disable the actions pane 3. Just hit "go" on your second screen shot and you should be able to dump it there.

The rest of those look pretty much stock.

"Action Pane 3"? I do not see this

I did save this file to my zip drive and ran it on my other laptop (Vista Office 2010 64 bit) and it ran fine. The one with issues is Windows 8, Office 2013 64 bit.

you have a zip drive? Are you from the 90's? Does it have a whopping 150 mb of space? You can hold at least 7 and maybe 8 mp3's on one of those.

Try changing the filter to xml expansion pack and disable that. Although, it's weird I have that listed on my xppro+office 07 box too.

Does the file that's crashing have anything weird going on? I see this a lot with files that are created with or derrivative of essbase or bex or something. Check workbook links too.

I guess wrong terminology LOL, I have a memory stick LOL, and it has 32 gig on it LOL, have several from 4 gig to 64 gig LOL

when you say change the filter to xml, do you mean save my file with issue from xlsm to xml?

No. When you go into manage addins there's a drop down box letting you select what kind of addins to manage. Select xml.

I'm not at home right now but will be in an hour. However, there was not am option to disable. There were 3 options. Attach, delete and 1 other

Hi Jack,

As you say the file works fine on a different laptop, its something on the PC causing this.

As you check for the XML under Manage addins, also select Disabled Items and click go. Check if any addins/files are disabled over there. If so, select all and enable those.

1) I have noticed a symptom of Excel. Addins usually get loaded in alphabetical order. if any of the addins with initial alphabet names (A, B, C.....) are corrupted and cannot load,it disables the pending addins to be loaded and push it into the disabled items. If you find any addins or temp files over there, just enable it once.

2) Check in Excel Startup folder (%appdata% \Microsoft\Excel) . If any Excel crash happens/interim file save will be stored here. Ideally, this folder should be empty except the Startup folder but at times there will some temp files listed. Select all and delete (except Startup folder).

3) Under %appdata% \Microsoft\Forms, delete the Excel.box file .

4) Check %temp% \Excel8.0 folder. Delete all the files over there. This resets the form objects of the Excel .

5) Restart Excel. This should help to a certain extent.

As dan_I said, workbook links could be another strong reason for the Excel crash.

Thanks LOH I can't wait to see tonight when I get home. Last I looked I did not have a disable. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place.

Okay I did all that was suggested and it still rashes. As a matter of fact. I had gotten another back up copy out past week and its been working fine. I opened a file tonight that caused excel to lock up, I went to the task manager and kill all and then the problem started on this one file. Other files like this open fine. This was the file that was open at the time when it locked up and now it crashes. It is not a linked file because I can open a fresh back up and it links fine
