excel problem

Hi I was wondering if anyone could give me some help with my Excel 2010. I realise this is not the usual request on this board but I am a bit stuck. Excel takes ages and ages to open up approx 5 mins I have tried a lot of things but to no avail I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem. If I am out of order requesting this assistance I apologise and withdraw the request.
 
Without knowing much about the file, my suggestion would be to first try these options

1. Try saving the file in Binary format (.xlsb).
2. Before opening the file, change the calculation mode to Manual
 
Hi Mike ,

If by Excel you mean the application itself rather than any workbook , then probably you should see whether there are add-ins which you do not need , but which are getting loaded ; you can go to the Add-in Manager and uncheck all the unnecessary boxes , so that these add-ins do not get loaded at startup.

I must apologise for the delay in replying but un fortunately my PC crashed and now the problem is solved. Apparently it was the mother board that gave up the ghost so had a new on fitted problem solved. Thank you for your replies.
