I have the need to do high level planning at a month timeline. Have the excel 2007 purchased and am looking through examples. Gant by day is too granular a timeline of days, Gant Advanced is just a numbering timeline of week numbers. I understand that dates are just a number. Is there a way with Start date, end date to timeline months across a timeline? If you start at a day of 1/01/2010 serial number(40179) and format a cell to just month format it sort of works??????

If you are after a quick way to setup a set of dates for a Gantt or other timeline
I use the EOMONTH function
So if B2 has the date 1/1/2010 put =EOMONTH(B2,0)+1
into C2 and copy across
EOMONTH returns the date at the end of month the number of months before or after the current date, So =EOMONTH(B2,0) returns the date at the end of the current month.
EOMONTH is available in all versions of Excel but before 2007 you have to have the Analysis Toolpack Addin enabled
